to your userpage!Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,400 people (the most of any nation this year) contribute over 8,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate pages on various Wikimedia projects.
We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States! These photos are recognized for their photographic quality, artistic merit, and their encyclopedic value as illustrations of unique historical sites. We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret only being able to formally recognize the top 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other national contests, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 winners.
If you would like to view all the photos submitted for the U.S. this year, you may do so here.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all U.S. participants to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
A quick thank you to our national jury, as well as Commons editors who have helped categorize and place photos for the event. And finally, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments and helping to preserve our history through photography - we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events!

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear C1MM,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.
Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

to your userpage!Hello! Last year you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States. Thanks to people like you it was a great success, with over 1,400 people contributing over 8,000 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage.
I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information. The event runs similar to last year with some small but exciting changes: improved state guides, an interactive map, and a larger prize pool! Like last year, you'll be able to upload your photos of any registered historical site in the United States through the end of September (even if the photos were taken before this month).
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2017, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 11:47, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Relief Maps
[edit]Hi C1MM, I've been enjoying your relief maps for a while now and wanted to get into making some. There is a tutorial in the Graphic Lab I began going through, however the code for the .xml file that sets up the wikipedia standard coloring is broken. Could you please send the code for .xml files? I would also appreciate a short overview on how you make relief maps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wigger32r (talk • contribs) 19:35, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

- In all of those maps, youd used #f6e1b9 for internal area. Is it possible to to use different color? Similar to this map (Three color used here, one for division, one for other parts of Bangladesh & one for parts of India). I would like same as this. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 23:47, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Map suggestions
[edit]Hello. Good work on the Indo-Aryan map. I have a few suggestions. Can you look take a look at these if it can be accounted for-
1. Dhivehi missing for Minicoy island, Lakshadweep
2. Chakma missing for Chakma Autonomous District Council area of Mizoram.
3. Saurashtra language in Tamil Nadu, if possible?
4. Indo-Aryan speakers in Andamans, if possible?
Amshpatten (talk) 08:35, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Amshpatten: No problem, I'll fix Dhivehi, Chakma and the Andamans. Saurashtra is only spoken around Madurai by 2.5 lakhs and certainly isn't the dominant language there, so there's no point putting it on the map. C1MM (talk) 06:28, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Relief location maps of departments of Colombia
[edit]Hello C1MM!
I congratulate you for your work on the location maps of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, they have been wonderful. Good work!
This message is to ask you a great, great, GREAT favor: please, could you make the location relief maps (preferably in svg) of the departments of Colombia? The ones we currently have are horrible and do not correspond to the wikipedia standard. I do not know how to do them and although many many years ago I asked for them to be done in the mapping workshop of the wikipedia in German, I was ignored.
You can find the coordinates of each administrative division on this page: Locator maps of departments of Colombia.
Thank you very much, I await your answer. --Milenioscuro (talk) 12:00, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Image without license
[edit]
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

File:Himachal Pradesh locator map.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]
Hi C1MM, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Hello! Why did you change the colour of the coastline and the rivers? NNW 06:29, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- I thought it would make it clearer, since originally it was much harder to see the rivers and coastline when the colours were super close to both the land and sea colours. I will change it to the original if that is your wish. For Bangladesh it seemed particularly important to do that. C1MM (talk) 06:31, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- It is difficult to read a name when it stands upon a dark blue river or coastline. That's the reason why I changed the colour. And you even added rivers and make it more difficult. More doesn't always mean better. First of all it's an administrative map. In relief maps I still use the darker blue. NNW 06:35, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Got it, will change the rivers back to original colouring. However the extra rivers are relatively long important rivers (like the Atrai). Especially since the Ganga delta has shifted over time, many of these rivers are remnants and the cities founded near them indicate when the river was relatively important. So those extra rivers mean something. C1MM (talk) 06:39, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- That's okay for me. It is important to have a good reason why there is something in map or not. Btw what happened to the rivers in Mymensingh in Bangladesh.svg? NNW 06:41, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- I mean: more rivers are okay but please change back to the lighter blue. That map series uses this colour. NNW 07:41, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- On the administrative maps of divisions I removed the rivers to more easily show the boundaries. It will be reverted if you don't like it. Also, are you OK with the colour scheme only, or the number of rivers only, or both? C1MM (talk) 06:45, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- I have seen now that you removed them in all locator maps. It's fine for me the way it is now. (Sorry, it's one of those days when I'm really annoyed of checking again and again and again all the changes to files that I uploaded, every day. There are so many people who aren't able to handle SVG or understand how maps work or aren't able to accept that there are different ways to create a map etc. and this takes so much time which could be used more sensible and less nerve-wrecking.) Maps of Mizoram
[edit]Hello C1MM,
I have seen that you have uploaded locator maps of Mizoram. Thank you very much for this work. Mizoram has a very high height-to-width ratio and the maps often get very large when they are incorporated in normal Info boxes (e.g, see here: en:Serchhip district, or here: de:Serchhip (Distrikt))), which looks a little bit disproportional. I would therefore suggest to add some additional space on the left and on the right side of these maps. This would make the maps more suitable for use in Info boxes, tables, etc. What do you think? --Furfur ⁂ Diskussion 16:27, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
District map screw up
[edit]Hi. You have updated wrong maps here:
- File:Guntur in Andhra Pradesh (India).svg Krishna district as Guntur district
- File:Krishna in Andhra Pradesh (India).svg Guntur district as Krishna district
These files are used in several Wikipedias. Could you correct them please. Thanks! -- DaxServer (talk) 10:56, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
- Additionally, after fixing, please verify all the global usages so as to make sure they are in correct pages. Thanks -- DaxServer (talk) 10:59, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Map of India showing cow slaughter
[edit]Can you update File:India cow slaughter map.svg so that it has same colorscheme and key like the File:Status of cow slaughter in India.png.
The latter is more easier to read. Thank you.--Venkat TL (talk) 16:26, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- I understand the reason, but the PNG map excludes Buffalo and whether they can be slaughtered. I tried to include that in the map as it is an important distinction many ignore in talking about Cow slaughter. I will certainly change the colours though, they are currently not useful. Andhra Pradesh district locator maps
[edit]@C1MM, Thank you for updating Andhra Pradesh district locator maps. They look good. I would like to know how you are making sure that the new map is consistent with official map. Arjunaraoc (talk) 01:26, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- I actually got decent-quality image of the official map, and sized it so those boundaries which corresponded with the preexisting boundaries where on top of each other and traced the new ones. I tried to limit distortion and inaccuracy as much as possible. So this is straight from the Official map they provided. C1MM (talk) 18:08, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- @C1MM, Thanks for your reply. Good to know that you are able to limit distortions. As i work on OpenStreetMap, can you share me a link or send by email the image of the official map, as it may be helpful to compare with OSM map? Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:16, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- This is a decent-quality image which I used. I am having trouble finding the larger size I used. This might be helpful. C1MM (talk) 01:18, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
I love that map! can you increase its quality a bit its hard to see some of the smaller languages even after zooming AleksiB 1945 (talk) 13:30, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Malerkotla in Punjab (India).svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. [edit]Hello, @C1MM: Can you make a election map for Andhra Pradesh 2004 assembly elections (please note that the delimitation of constituencies took place in 2008....so you cannot use 2009 election result map as the template) Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 456legend (talk • contribs) 05:11, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
There is another small request. Can you please make maps for Uttarandra, Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema pages (region maps). I think this would be easy for you since you have the template already ready with you. 456legend (talk) 05:23, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
