English: (1 in a multiple picture set) This front door will greet guests no longer. (Did you know that the front door of farm houses was never used unless guests were coming?) Actually, I took a part in the loss of family farm places. When I was a teen in the 60s, one of my jobs was to tear down houses such as this. A millionaire would buy the 160-acre farm, tear down the buildings and plant more crops. At the time it was a job, but now I look back and cringe when I think of the destruction. Often furniture would be left behind and we'd get rid of that too. Sometimes we'd find things like an Edison Phonograph, but it, too, would get burned. Sad! |
